Officers have arrested two men in connection with a serious sexual assault in Ipswich town centre. 

While on patrol at about 3.50am on Sunday, officers in the town centre were approached by a woman who reported to them that she had been sexually assaulted by two men in St Stephen's Church Lane. 

A search for the suspects was launched and police subsequently arrested two men in connection with the incident. 

The pair were taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning, where they remain. 

A large police cordon was spotted in the town centre near to the Buttermarket on Sunday while officers carried out investigations. 

This has since been lifted. 

A spokesman for Suffolk police said the victim is being supported by specialist trained officers.
