Police have made two arrests after a man was seriously injured after being struck by a glass bottle outside a bar in Ipswich earlier this month. 

An altercation took place inside the A Listers at Aurora Bar in Helena Road on the Waterfront at about 12.15am on Sunday, August 18 before moving outside the premises.  

It is alleged one of the men involved, aged in his 30s, was pinned against a grey BMW car parked outside the venue by a suspect. 

The man was then struck with a glass bottle to the side of the head.

He suffered serious head and facial injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Another man sustained injuries to his hand when he attempted to intervene and stop the incident.

Police have now made two arrests in connection with the incident. 

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, August 21 on suspicion of assault and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre.

He was later bailed to return to police on October 21.

A second man, aged 25, was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre.

He was has also been bailed to return to police on October 21.

The incident earlier this month sparked shock among the community.

Councillor for the Holywells ward in Ipswich Nic El-Safty previously said: “As a local councillor I’m very shocked to hear of the incident occurring outside the Aurora bar.

“Thankfully incidents of violence like this are very rare on the Waterfront and it is a peaceful and well policed area of town. Most people drink there responsibly and enjoy their night."

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information that may assist detectives with their enquiries.
