A planned two-month closure of the A14 outside Ipswich has been hit with further delays. 

The stretch of road between junction 52 for Claydon and junction 55 for Copdock Interchange was originally meant to close on Tuesday for essential repairs to "extend the life of the road surface".

At first the roadworks were postponed until Monday, September 9 but National Highways has confirmed further delays have pushed the start date back to Monday, September 16 - nearly a month after the roadworks were originally scheduled to start.

A spokesman said the further postponement will allow operatives "to incorporate maintenance planned for later in the year and reduce the number of closures required on this section of the A14".

Work will be carried out on weeknights between 8pm and 6pm but will be weather permitting. 

The works are expected to last two months. 

While the stretch of A14 is closed, drivers will be diverted along the B1113 through Sproughton.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the area in order to mitigate speeding and reduce disruption to local residents.
