An annual village beer festival has proved to be a success once again despite the weather threatening to put a damper on the event.

The Duke of Marlborough pub's annual beer festival in Somersham, near Ipswich, was held over the bank holiday weekend.

The event was enjoyed by many who were able to try bespoke beers and ciders and listen to music, with a designated children's area set up to ensure youngsters had something to do.

Pub organisers, April Douglas and her husband Aaron, who are the managers of the pub with David Pratt as the tenant, said the event was well-attended from the Friday to Monday and people were in high spirits enjoying the bank holiday weekend, despite poor weather.

The six breweries involved in the weekend included Colchester Brewery, nano-brewery Drinkstones, Moon Gazer from Hindringham in Norfolk, Mighty Oak from Maldon and more.

The Earl Soham Brewery also assisted with providing racking and a cooling system for the event.

April said: "Despite the terrible weather, the beer festival has been great.

"The beers were selling well and we had a board up where people could put a vote for their favourite beers which we can make sure we have as a guest drink at the pub in the future.

"Our new kid's area, which was fundraised by the village, was a great addition and it's been wonderful for the children to see their friends from the local school at the pub before returning to school.

"It's a lovely community hub.

"The annual beer festival is a great community event. A range of volunteers help, from putting up bunting, gardening to volunteering in the beer tent, all is needed to make the event possible so thank you to all.

"It's been lovely seeing so many new and familiar faces enjoying the beer festival! It takes a long time planning and organising the event so is wonderful when we see the pub busy with happy people enjoying what we have put on for them."
