Film fanatics can get excited as filming for a new feature movie based in Suffolk has begun,

Once Upon a Time in Suffolk is an anthology feature film that explores nine stories of folklore and fairy tales in the county but with a modern twist.

The film was conceived by Nick Woolgar, Matthew McGuchan, Julien Mery and Ruth Selwyn-Crome, of the FILM Suffolk team, who have worked on previous feature film anthologies for the organisation.

On Thursday, August 1, the project confirmed that they had begun filming in Lowestoft.

They announced the news in a social media post that read: "Exciting news from the set of Once Upon a Time in Suffolk! We've just started our first day of shooting, and the energy is palpable."


"The cast and crew have come together wonderfully, capturing some stunning scenes in Lowestoft."

On Thursday, August 8, a casting call was announced for a boy-racer-type driver to join the shooting in Ipswich in what is described as the climactic scene in the film.

On Friday, August 9, the organisers announced that the role had been filled and the scene was shot in the Ipswich area.

Previously, in July, the project also announced the end of its open casting call, which was available to actors in the region of East Anglia

In a post on social media, they said: "Wow! A massive thank you to everybody who submitted a tape for our OPEN CASTING."

"We have been truly astounded by the wealth of talent within our region!"

The film will explore a range of classic tales such as Red Riding Hood and the Wild Man of Orford while weaving in local Suffolk themes and people, such as John Constable, Suffolk scarecrows, Bradfield Woods and the Yoxman statue.

The news also comes as Ed Sheeran and Richard Curtis recently announced that they will be filming a movie in Suffolk which will follow characters in a seaside town.
