A unit which was home to a gym for a number of years has been put up for rent eight months after the its unexpected closure.

Energie Fitness, in Rosehill Centre in Ipswich, closed suddenly on December 21 last year.

The gym was hoping to reopen, with the branch stating it was in conversation with the landlord over a potential reopening date following a breach of contract.

When it closed, the landlord, the East of England Co-operative Society, took back ownership of the gym - saying the tenants had forfeited their lease.

Equipment inside the gym has been removed, however, and the gym has permanently closed, with the unit being listed for rent at £90,000 per annum.

The unit is up for rent with the hope it remains a gym.

This is the second premises in the shopping area, which comprises of other shops Aldi, British Heart Foundation, Bargain Buys and Greggs, to be put up for rent.

The Co-op, just three units away from the gym, closed on January 27, just over a month after the gym shut.

This unit was put up for rent in March this year, but no one is set to take over the premises.

Following the closure of the two units, Ipswich Borough Councillor for the Priory Heath ward, Ruman Muhith, said back in January: "With the Rosehill site under Co-op ownership, I eagerly await updates on new tenants for the two units, anticipating positive developments that will contribute to the vibrancy of our local business landscape.

"I personally would like to see the presence of retailers that can draw in a substantial customer base, retailers that would significantly bolster the local economy."
