A shop selling foods that are coming to the end of their best before dates in a shopping centre in Ipswich has closed its doors, just six months after opening.

Bargain Food Store, near Poundland and Subway in Sailmakers shopping centre, has shut.

The shop opened on February 16, with the owner Gary Martin also signing leases to open three other shops in the centre.

These included Stock King, Big Red Label and Just Potatoes.

Just Potatoes has since closed, and is now under new ownership under a new name, Potatoes & More, while Stock King has had "opening soon" signs in the window since March, while nothing has changed inside.

Meanwhile, Big Red Label is currently empty inside with signage still displayed.

Bargain Food Store sold a variety of products that were within two months of their best before dates.

It is unknown why the shop has closed and what will be done with the Stock King and Big Red Label units on the first floor.

The shopping centre has had a turbulent 12 months, with shops opening and closing within the centre and Sailmakers twice going up for auction, selling for £3.02m on both occasions.

Elsewhere in the shopping centre, Vitamin Bar closed in June this year, Poundland earmarked to close earlier in the year, but they stayed open and White Label, which took the unit over from Barnardo's on the ground floor, closing its doors recently also.

Ipswich Windrush Society was also asked to leave the centre in March this year.

The new owners for the shopping centre are not yet known.
