A second man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of an Ipswich mother last week.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with a fatal stabbing in Burrell Road in Ipswich last Tuesday evening.

The man was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre where he was released on bail with conditions to return to police on October 12.

Courtney Mitchell, a mother of three, was stabbed in Ipswich last week, leading to a cordon being put in place in Burrell Road. 

Emergency services were called to the road near the railway station shortly after 7.10pm following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers attended and found a woman who had suffered serious injuries.

Emergency services attended the scene, but despite their efforts the 26-year-old died a short time later in hospital.

Logan Burnett, 27, of All Saints Road in Ipswich, was arrested on Wednesday, August 7 on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Burnett then appeared at Ipswich Crown Court having been charged with Miss Mitchell's murder and was remanded in custody.

Lanterns were released last week on Felixstowe beach in memory of Miss Mitchell, who was described as a "shining star" in a heartfelt statement from her family released after her death.

Her family's tribute added: "Courtney was a great mum with two beautiful sons and one beautiful daughter who love her immeasurably.

"We miss you and you are forever in our hearts and as a family we are completely and utterly devastated and broken."

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct by Essex Police regarding previous contact from the force with Miss Mitchell.
