A spokesman for the fire service said the individuals were trapped for more than an hour, but crews were able to bring them down safely at about 12.15pm.

The spokesman added that crews remained at the scene a short while after to make the area safe and secure the equipment where the individuals were trapped.

Six appliances were present and crews from Ipswich East, Woodbridge, Princes Street and Lowestoft South stations attended.

A spokesman for Ipswich Town Football Club said on Tuesday: "We are aware of a third-party contractor’s scissor being involved in an incident at Portman Road yesterday morning. "

Workmen on-site initially assisted until fire and rescue arrived very soon after.

"Everyone was soon taken down to safety and there are no reported injuries."
