An Ipswich woman has been sentenced after two neglected animals were seized from her home in Sproughton.

Andreia Viana, of Chantry Park View, has been sentenced by Ipswich Magistrates Court for causing unnecessary suffering and neglect to her two pets.

The 29-year-old was given a five-year ban on keeping all animals, ordered to carry out a 12 month community service with 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and 150 hours of unpaid work.

She pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to her tabby cat, Tico, by not taking him to the vets.

The vet examining Tico said there was a "foul smell" from his mouth. Tico had severe gingivo-stomatitis, a disease that was "clearly painful and had been present for weeks at least."

The court heard how in a separate incident, Viana had left 14-week-old puppy Lorde for two weeks in her garden to go on holiday.

Lorde was left in a hazardous environment with "several piles of faeces".

The person Viana had asked to feed him was concerned, and the RSCPA removed Lorde from the property in August 2023 and found him "significantly underweight."

Speaking after the case RSPCA inspector Natalie Bartle said: “Pet owners have a duty to ensure the welfare needs of their animals are met.

"Tico required surgery to his mouth and needed all but two of his teeth removed as a result.

"Sadly in the case of Tico and Lorde they had been failed by their owner.

"Tico has since been rehomed and has a loving new family and Lorde has been in foster care and is now up for adoption.”

Viana told the court she couldn't afford vet treatment for Tico the cat, and claimed she had made adequate arrangements for Lorde the dog to be looked after while she was on holiday.

She has appealed against her sentence.
