Disbelief and shock has rocked Ipswich after a woman in her 20s was stabbed to death near the railway station.
Emergency services were called to Burrell Road, close to Ipswich railway station at about 7.10pm on Tuesday.
Police launched a murder investigation after a woman aged in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have currently been made and a cordon remains in place.
Bob Mussett, 80, who has lived in Ipswich for 50 years said: "It shouldn’t happen. Whoever’s done it shouldn’t get out of prison.
"I’ve lived here for 50 years, it’s all changed.
"It is shocking, unbelievable really. When you take the life of a young person you should never come out."

A cordon remains in place on Wednesday morning.
A woman who has been living in Ipswich since May and came from Zimbabwe said: "I thought it was a very safe place to be so I’m in shock right now.
"I was just thinking how nice it is that you can walk freely and she was not stabbed very late.
"I have never heard of anything like this.
"This is very bad. Why would anyone do this? If you have a dispute everyone should go their own way.
Another woman walking by the scene who wished to remain anonymous said "any loss of life is a tragedy".
Kelvin Savage who was with his wife Angela on holiday from Downham Market in Norfolk said while walking by the scene: “We’ve never felt unsafe around Ipswich but it’s really terrible that it’s happening around this area to the female population.”
Councillor Phil Smart for Bridge Ward at Ipswich Borough Council said: "This is a truly horrific incident, and our thoughts go out to the victim and those close to her.
"Ipswich Borough Council are helping the police search through CCTV footage to identify the person or persons responsible."
A woman who lives near the scene and wished to remain anonymous said: "I came back here yesterday from the gym in the evening and saw all these police cars and I didn’t know what was going on and i found out it was a stabbing.
"I’m scared, I have lived here six years but I have never seen this."
Clever Gorejena, who has lived in Ipswich for 14 years, called the stabbing "tragic".
He said: "It’s not good and it shouldn’t happen because people are people and women shouldn’t be attacked they should be protected.”
Resident Leonard Gibney, 82, said: I’m getting very worried about what’s happening in general and worried about what’s happening with knife crime.
"In fact at the moment I don’t think we’re just facing a civil war like Elon Musk said I think we’re facing something far worse.
"We’re facing an absolute catastrophe."
