Plans have been revealed to build a supermarket at the former Lloyds Bank site on Bramford Road.

Lloyds Bank ceased operations on the site in May 2023, after announcing the closure of 40 banks across the country.

The building has been vacant ever since, however, Family Supermarket Limited has since taken over the site and applied for it to be made into a retail store.

The application was submitted on behalf of the store by Beanland Associates Architects to Ipswich Borough Council, where they asked permission for external work on windows.

The developers have already begun doing some internal work on the site, while they await approval from the borough council.

The supermarket will have 16 car parking spaces and has applied to extend the building to accommodate more room for food retailing.

Lloyds Bank had moved out of the branch after they reported a 60% fall in people entering the bank over five years as more and more people do their banking online.

They continue to operate from their office at Cornhill.
