A pub in the town centre has been granted permission to sell alcohol from 8am on Ipswich Town matchdays when the Blues have an early kick-off.

The premises licence at Mannings on the Cornhill has changed to allow for an earlier alcohol serving time on selected days.

Currently, Mannings serves alcohol from 10am every day - but with the new licence, it is allowed to serve alcohol from 8am on Ipswich Town matchdays, home or away, when the kick-off time is at 12.30pm or earlier.

The pub, which is part of the Stonegate Group, said previously: "Mannings is a central part of the local community and our guests are hugely excited that Ipswich will now play in the Premier League."

The pub also stated that this new licence variance will enable guests to "meet friends, family and colleagues at the pub to build excitement pre-game and be the place for the community to come together to support their team".

Town's first Premier League campaign in more than 20 years begins on Saturday, August 17, when Liverpool visit Portman Road.

This game will kick off at 12.30pm, meaning Mannings will be open to customers to serve alcohol from 8am on that day.

Last season, Town had eight 12.30pm kick offs - with four of them being at Portman Road. This included Town's promotion-clinching game against Huddersfield Town on the last day of the season.

This game saw pubs around the town fill up from as early as 8am on Saturday, May 4.

Six of the eight early kick-offs came in the Championship last season, with two coming in the FA Cup.

This season, there is only game so far scheduled to kick off at 12.30pm, but with 200 of the 380 Premier League fixtures being shown on live TV across Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime Sport, it wouldn't be surprising if more are selected.
