A man who punched a woman until she was unconscious and a burglar with 126 previous convictions were among the Suffolk criminals jailed in July.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how John Hutton of Old Rectory Close, Barham, left a woman "dead emotionally and physically" after raping her.

The 34-year-old denied raping the woman after walking her home from the Fox pub in Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds, in July 2021 but was unanimously convicted by a jury.

Hutton was sentenced to nine years in Jail.

Daniel Coulson, of Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, was jailed after causing nine hours of disruption in the Buttermarket and Tavern Street area of the town centre.

The 49-year-old with 62 previous convictions climbed onto the roof of a building after a failed robbery from a jewellers.

He was jailed for two years and six months after pleading guilty to burglary offences and causing a public nuisance.

After putting a woman in a headlock and punching her until she collapsed unconscious in Sudbury, Ryan Thirlwell was jailed for 27 months.

The court heard that the 35-year-old, of Magnolia Drive in Colchester, had been taking prescription drugs and spirits with the victim before an argument broke out.

The victim died later that month, but the court heard it was from medical complications unrelated to the attack.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how the owner of Middleton Garage, near Saxmundham, arrived at the building to find a door forced open and a safe forcibly removed from the wall.

A cash tin containing £50 and about £17,000 worth of tools had been stolen in the burglary.

Clarke has 126 previous convictions and was sentenced to 16 months in jail and banned from driving for a further 38 months.

Gioulian Kola

Gioulian Kola was found with 30 bags of cocaine (Image: Suffolk Police) Ipswich Crown Court heard how Gioulian Kola, of Bradford Road in Shipley, illegally returned to the UK after being deported while serving a three and a half year sentence for drug dealing in 2019.

Kola told the officers what they were looking for in a compartment behind the steering wheel when he was stopped by police driving a car in Mildenhall in October last year.

Officers found 30 bags of cocaine worth £1,500, £60 in cash and an iPhone containing messages consistent with the postcode drug delivery model.

Kola was jailed for 40 months after admitting to possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

He was jailed for a further eight months for entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.
