Two Ipswich men have appeared in court for assaulting a police officer in the town.
Daniel Rutherford, 51, and Ethan Rutherford, 23, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court after an incident in March. According to a court listing, the pair had assaulted a police officer in Ipswich on March 2 of this year.
Daniel Rutherford, of Cardiff Avenue, was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker.
Ethan Rutherford, of Chesterton Close, was charged with common assault of an emergency worker and possession of cannabis, having been found with the class B drug on the day of the incident.
Both indicated guilty pleas to their offences.
Daniel Rutherford was handed a prison sentence of eight weeks, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to pay court costs of £145 and a victim surcharge of £154, bringing the total to £299.
Ethan Rutherford was handed a community order for both crimes, which will end in October next year. During that time, he will complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
He will also pay court costs of £145 and a surcharge of £114, a total of £259.
