A man has been arrested after a "targeted" stabbing in an Ipswich park, police have said.

The arrest follows an incident where a victim was attacked by another man in Christchurch Park in Ipswich at about 8.10pm on Monday.

A man, in his 20s suffered, serious stab wounds and was rushed to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries, a Suffolk police spokesman confirmed.

Following an investigation, a 48-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for further questioning.

A police cordon was put in place in the park near the town centre on Tuesday morning as officers carried out an investigation.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Police believe this was a targeted assault and there is no wider threat to the community."

Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have CCTV or doorbell footage.
