A burglar who caused hours of disruption in Ipswich town centre has been described as a "reckless" and a "brazen individual" by police. 

Forty-nine-year-old Daniel Coulson was sentenced to two and a half years in jail after climbing onto the roof during a burglary at Carats Jewellers in Butter Market on May 16.

A number of emergency services resources were deployed to the area and it took nine hours for the situation to be resolved.

Detective Constable Jack Evans said: "Coulson is brazen individual who caused a significant impact to business owners, the Ipswich community and emergency services. 

"His reckless behaviour on May 16 put not only himself but also members of the public on the ground at great risk of harm and to resolve the situation in the safest way possible, a considerable area of the town centre had to be cordoned off.

"It is satisfying to see him in jail where he will have plenty of time to reflect on his criminal behaviour."
