Plans have been submitted to convert the former newsagents in Chantry into a café.
Chantry News was previously run by community stalwart, John Beecroft, for more than 60 years, before he died in 2022.
The newsagents in Hawthorn Drive have been vacant ever since, and recently Barlas Coffee announced its intention to set up shop there by putting up signs.
The café owners have now submitted an application to Ipswich Borough Council to take this forward.
The plans include provisions for internal refurbishments and the permission to act as a hot food takeaway and a café.
The application was submitted by J T Hancock and Associates Ltd on behalf of Barlas Coffee, who stated that given the area the area includes grocery shops and other services the café would be a great addition.
A spokesman for the café team said: "We can't wait to show everyone our beautiful coffee and we are very excited that the shop is nearly ready.
"We have been working with coffee for over 11 years and are very passionate about it. The coffee is going to be great and there's going to be lots of it.
"Plus, we are also going to be serving delicious breakfast meals, ice creams and slushies."
