Concern after blade found in Cherry Lane Park in Ipswich

The blade was found by mother-of-two Kylie Garrard when she was Cherry Lane Park in the east of the town on Thursday.

Councillor Richard Pope, who represents the Bixley Ward at Ipswich Borough Council, believes it a concern for people using the parks.

"We do not know if it was malicious or not but it was a worry it was left there."

Mrs Garrard was with her friend, Sharna, when the pair made the discovery.

Ms Garrard said it left her feeling "shocked" and "faint", before she eventually called the police. 

Mr Pope added: "I think we need to make sure people understand that leaving sharps about is potentially dangerous, regardless of what they are.

"Given it is the school holidays and people are going to be using parks more, it is a worry for parents."

Suffolk police has carried out additional patrols in the area since Thursday.

A spokesman said: "Officers have conducted patrols in local parks and playgrounds and are urging members of the public to remain vigilant when using any of the equipment and report any concerns."

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council added: "Our parks team have been carrying out additional patrols in parks and open spaces and we can confirm nothing has been found.

"No reports have been make directly to us, however we have been advised of content on social media. The public can get in contact with the Council’s Park Protection Team with any concerns by emailing: ParkServices@ipswich.gov.uk.”
