A teenager from Ipswich has gone from being a kitchen assistant in a care home to working at a top Michelin star restaurant in London in the space of just two years.
Nathan Morton started his career in 2022, working in MHA Norwood Care Home in Park Road in Ipswich.
He there between July 2022 and August 2023, working as a kitchen assistant whilst he was studying catering at college.
Following his time at the care home, he went on to be an apprentice at the Greyhound Inn in Pettistree, a restaurant run by a finalist on Masterchef the Professionals, Adam Spicer.
The 18-year-old was put forward by his colleague to participate in a national cooking competition, which he won with his team.
This led to a trial shift at the Michelin star London restaurant Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay.
He impressed so much at this trial, he was offered a job as a commis chef the same day.
He said: "As soon as I went in for the trial, I knew it was the place for me.
"The trial was definitely hard. You could tell the maturity of everyone, how smart they looked, everything was so organised, everything was done with such attention to detail, I wasn't used to it.
"Everyone was really nice and supportive though, so much so they wanted me back.
"It was very exciting and when I was offered the job, I was over the moon.
"I start at the end of August and have a mixture of nerves and excitement."
While at MHA Norwood in Ipswich, he worked with chef coach Marc Cox, who Nathan has thanked for helping him get to this point.
He continued: "Working at MHA Norwood was the perfect place for me and it really helped me to understand the basics of working in a kitchen.
"Working with Marc was a great experience and one I feel really helped me to push on
"I always wanted to be a chef and working in a fast paced environment at the home really helped me to understand the requirements."
Mr Cox added: "It wasn't a shock when Nathan told me but a nice surprise."
