An Ipswich high school has been made a Centre of Excellence for its inclusivity.

Northgate High School and Sixth Form College have been awarded an IQM (Inclusion Quality Mark) with the Centre of Excellence.

The award was established in 2004 to support and assess both state and independent schools to become inclusive.

The evaluation report states: "Northgate High School and Sixth Form Centre is an excellent example of inclusive practice in a secondary setting.

"Every student is valued and the school endeavours to celebrate their unique abilities, recognise every achievement and help them to move on to be responsible global citizens."

IQM stated the governing board is great at helping students flourish in the environment best suited to them while being committed to ensuring their behaviour is up to standards.

They also complimented the teaching staff and their work ethic along with how they organise the curriculum.

"The curriculum is deliberately designed to reference the culture and identity of its students," the report adds.

"The school has a constant focus on providing students with references that they can personally relate to."
