A barrier issue that caused parking to be temporarily free at an Ipswich town centre car park has been fixed, it has been confirmed.

The Crown Street car park, next to the Crown Pools site, was offering free parking from Saturday due to an issue with a broken barrier.

A sign was placed on the pay machine simply saying "free parking today" and one shopper told this newspaper that the issue had still not been resolved as of Tuesday morning.

However, a spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council, which runs the car park, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the barrier had been fixed.

The spokesman said in a brief statement: "The barrier has now been fixed and is fully operational."

Ipswich Borough Council did not reveal how much revenue it had missed out on as a result of parking at the car park, which is close to the town centre, being free for several days.
