Youngsters from a school on the Shotley peninsula are celebrating an extraordinary season for the girls’ under-15s A cricket squad, marked by outstanding performances and historic achievements.
The Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, near Ipswich, saw its students reach the final of the County Cup.
This season the players secured victories against the likes of Woodbridge School, St Joseph’s College and Ipswich School.
Many of their hard-working players have earned call-ups to the RHS 1st and 2nd XI squads.
For the first time since the introduction of girls’ cricket at RHS, the team reached the final of the under-15 County Cup competition, making history and setting a new standard for future teams.
The journey to the final was filled with thrilling moments and remarkable teamwork, the school said.
After Saint Felix forfeited the first round, the RHS girls faced Ipswich School in a gripping semi-final.
A stellar 90-run partnership between Elise and Bea propelled the team to a total of 128-6 in 20 overs.
Skye delivered a sensational performance, taking 4-14, including a hattrick, and sharp fielding secured a nail-biting 6-run victory.
In the final, the RHS team showcased their bowling prowess, restricting St Joseph’s to 117-4. Skye once again stood out with her bowling.
Despite a batting effort by Connie, the team narrowly missed the target, finishing as the runners-up.
Nick Platt, director of sport at Royal Hospital School and coach of the team, said: "This season has been incredible for our girls’ U15A cricket squad.
"Their dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship have been exemplary, and we are immensely proud of their achievements.
"Playing such great cricket has seen them beat their local rivals and reach the County Cup final for the first time, which is testament to their hard work and determination.
"We look forward to seeing these talented players continue to excel in their cricketing careers."
