Police believe there were "no suspicious circumstances" in the death of a newborn baby whose body was found at a house in Ipswich.

Officers from Suffolk police were called to Wilbury House in Norwich Road at about 12.35pm on Saturday, December 9 after the body of a newborn baby had been discovered outside the property

The discovery sparked a huge emergency service response and saw the property cordoned off until the following morning as officers conducted an investigation.

Paramedics also attended the incident, but the baby was declared dead at the scene.

Two men and a teenage female were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder in connection with the death - but police have confirmed they will not face any further action.

A Home Office post-mortem examination took place on Tuesday, December 12 and was inconclusive, with further tests required.

The further tests gave a cause of death as stillbirth with no criminal offences revealed and so the investigation has concluded.

A Suffolk police spokesman said detectives are now "satisfied that there were no suspicious circumstances" in the death of the infant.

The discovery of the body last December left people in the town shocked and sparked an outpour of grief in the community.

Speaking to this newspaper at the time, neighbours described their shock and sadness at hearing the news of the death.

One neighbour, 70, said he had never heard of an incident like this and said it made him cry.

Colin Kreidewolf, who represents Westgate ward on Ipswich Borough Council, described the incident as a "tragic event for Ipswich".

He added: "Of course, it is a really tragic situation if a newly-born baby is found in these circumstances and something that concerns us all when you hear of this kind of event."
