An Ipswich social enterprise founder has criticised the government's decision to refrain from appointing a dedicated minister for veterans’ affairs.
Nigel Seaman, who launched Combat2Coffee in 2018, expresses his disappointment in the government's recent cabinet announcement.
Until the general election, this position was headed by the former Army Captain Johnny Mercer, a Conservative who lost his Plymouth Moor View seat.
Mr Seaman, a former Royal Anglian soldier, says he and the veteran community "feel let down" by this move.

Portfolios will now fall under ex-Colonel Alistair Carns, who will function not as a cabinet member but as parliamentary under-secretary.
Sir Keir Starmer, the new prime minister, has unveiled his cabinet after Labour's victory in the general election.
Mr Carns' responsibilities, due to be listed on official government websites, include running the Office for Veterans’ Affairs and having oversight from new defence secretary, John Healey.
Mr Seaman said: “I, and many others in the community, do feel let down by this decision.
“The introduction of a dedicated cabinet role for veterans’ affairs is something that was warmly welcomed by former forces members, who for too long had felt like they did not have a voice in government.
“While I don’t doubt Sir Keir and Mr Carns will continue to support us – and I wish them the very best in their work – this feels like a real step backwards.”
Despite this setback, he expects actionable commitment towards veterans from the government.

Mr Seaman added: “These are however very early days and I look forward to seeing the plans they have in store to support veterans here in Suffolk and across the country beyond the uniform.”
Collaborating with ex-England and Ipswich Town footballer Terry Butcher, Combat2Coffee recently initiated the 'Beyond the Uniform' campaign, aiming at increasing awareness of insufficient support for veterans’ families post their military service.
Mr Seaman added: “There are amazing social enterprises and charities like Combat2Coffee nationwide who would love the chance to work with Sir Keir and his team going forwards – and we will continue to be here should he need support.”
