A man has suffered injuries to his face after being assaulted in Ipswich.
Police were called to Wherstead Road at about 8.50pm on Thursday following reports that a man had been assaulted.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said initial witness accounts stated that a man and a woman were arguing when they were approached by an unknown person who punched the man.
The victim - a man aged in his 30s - sustained injuries to his face and the inside of his mouth.
He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and was taken to Martlesham police station for questioning.
A number of officers and police cars were seen in the road while investigations were taking place.
Forensics investigators were also spotted attending the incident in the major road, to the south of the town.
