Despite not always receiving national recognition, this Suffolk village with an award-winning pub is well worth a visit.
Newbourne, near Martlesham and Woodbridge, is a place that is becoming increasingly popular and should be on people's lists of places to visit.
Here is why you should check out the village.
Newbourne Fox
The Newbourne Fox is an award-winning pub that was saved after a devastating fire after a large blaze broke out in the kitchen in 2018.
The pub was recently named as the best pub in Suffolk and among the best in the East of England in the National Pub & Bar Awards 2024.
With spaces to sit at both the front and rear of the pub, the Fox oozes a perfect beer garden experience.
Newbourne Springs
The small nature reserve lies on the edge of the village and is composed of a range of habitats, primarily broadleaved and mixed woodland with some areas of marsh, fen and heathland.
Due to the large number of springs, it was used as a source of water for Felixstowe and the surrounding area by Anglian Water until the 1980s.
Today the old pumping station has been converted into a visitor centre for the reserve.
Great café
The village is also home to Nourish Café which is a popular place for not just those who live in the Newbourne - but those outside of it, too.
Tracey Ball opened Nourish Cafe five years ago, serving a range of sweet and savoury treats.
Recently, the café changed its opening hours to start serving breakfast at an earlier time of 9am.
Stunning homes and buildings
There are a number of stunning buildings and beautiful homes within Newbourne.
One of those being the Grade I-listed Church of St Mary.
The building has medieval origins with its nave and chancel dating back to the 12th century.
Also in the village is Newbourne Hall, which is a Grade II-listed building that dates back to the 14th century.
It is part timber framed and plastered and part red brick. The hall is open for viewing but by appointment only.
Great campsite
If you are looking to stay over while visiting the village, there is a great campsite you should check out.
Newbourne Woodland Campsite is a small and peaceful retreat with just 20 pitches available.
There are both woodland and meadow pitches along with quality shower and toilet facilities for guests.
Plant nurseries
The village is also home to a number of plant nurseries, including Katie's Garden Plant Centre in Ipswich Road.
There are a selection of plants on offer with most of the stock grown on the two-acre site.
