A man who fractured his victim's skull with a claw hammer and a man caught with seal bags of cocaine were among those jailed in Suffolk in June.

Martin Quince

The statement said: "My life has completely changed not just for me. Four months after the incident I lost independence and had to rely heavily on my wife."

Defence barrister Edward Renvoize said there was "relatively scant mitigation" for 43-year-old Martin Quince but added he had an unsettled life from a young age and lacked access to support. 

Quince, of Market Place in Mildenhall, was described as "high risk to the public" who was unpredictable and impulsive due to cocaine use. 

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with an extended licence period of five years.

Akeem Long

Akeem Long was jailed for four years and three monthsAkeem Long was jailed for four years and three months (Image: Suffolk police) Thirty-one-year-old Akeem Long ran the "Tiny" drug line between March and May last year and sent out bulk messages to advertise the sale of heroin and crack cocaine. 

When he was arrested he pulled away as an officer tried to take his mobile phone but he was taken to the ground.

Long, of Dillwyn Street West in Ipswich, admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, possessing cannabis, obstructing a police officer and possessing criminal property. 

He was sentenced to four years and three months and made the subject of a serious crime prevention order for five years.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how 43-year-old Paul English caused "devastating" psychological harm to girls he abused when they were aged nine and 12. 

English, of Horn Hill in Lowestoft, was previously found guilty of 11 counts relating activity with a child and sexual assault of a child. 

One of the girls who read out her personal statement in court said: “I struggled to shower because I could feel his hands all over my body. I couldn’t go out on my own because I was scared, I would see him if I did."

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was issued a sexual harm prevention order stating he can no longer interact with children under 16 unless it was completely unavoidable.

Ermal Zemzadja

Ermal Zemzadja was jailed for two yearsErmal Zemzadja was jailed for two years (Image: Suffolk police) Ermal Zemzadja was stopped in Newmarket in April and was found to be in possession of two phones, with one found to contain messaging relating to the supply of drugs. 

Following his arrest a property was searched and 10 seal bags of cocaine were found inside. 

Zemzadja, of Shenley Road in Borehamwood, was sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and using a motor vehicle without insurance. 

Sergeant George Laflin of the West Sentinel team said: "This result highlights that action will be taken to those who continue to distribute drugs and impact our local communities."

David Hawthorne

As time went on, he continued to berate his partner and called her rude and abusive names, including “pub rat”. He also used a screwdriver to seal shut the windows of her flat to stop her leaving, locking her inside for “a couple of days”.

Hawthorne, of Lilac Drive in Lowestoft, was also answering charges of drug driving and driving whilst disqualified after he had been recognised riding a motorcycle by an off-duty police officer who knew that he had been previously banned from driving.

His arrest activated a suspended sentence from 2022 for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

Judge Richard Kelly sentenced Hawthorne to 38 months in prison, of which he will serve half.
