The largest free one-day music festival in the UK returns this weekend in a celebration of music, culture and talent from the area.

Ipswich Music Day 2024 returns on Sunday, July 7, when Christchurch Park will turn into a vibrant music festival with six stages.

The six stages, dotted around the park, will host live music and entertainment from upcoming artists.

There will also be fairground rides for children and adults, street food and a marketplace.

For the first time, the council has teamed up with Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association (ISIA) who will be hosting the Indian Summer Mela Stage near Fonnereau Road.

The Bowl Stag, sponsored by BBC Radio Suffolk, will be situated near the Henley Road entrance to the park and will feature BBC Introducing Artists.

The Westerfield entrance will be home to the Crossroad Stage, sponsored by Suffolk Sound, and the Rise Stage, sponsored by Suffolk New College, will be situated next to the playground.

The Pond Stage will be home to indie, rap, R&B and DJs throughout the course of the day.

The Grapevine stage will feature acoustic and jazz artists next to the marketplace.

This year, the event is also expanding outside the part with performances by choirs and community group taking place in Bethesda Church, Christchurch Mansion, Masonic Hall and St Margaret's Church.

Running for the 34th year, the event has seen names such as world-renowned Suffolk star Ed Sheeran perform and has offered up and coming artists the chance to perform in front of thousands.

The line-up this year features performances from AfterDrive, who have had music plays on BBC Radio 1, and Piers James, who has performed at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and had a song on a FIFA video game.

Pixelh8 will also be returning after 12 years away, and The Downsetters will be performing following their Glastonbury set last weekend.
