An Ipswich woman who said she was almost run over by a car driving on the pavement in a town centre street may soon get her wish.

Lizzie Hicks lives in Berners Street and has been frustrated by the motorists on her street driving recklessly.

However, her frustration might soon come to ease as a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been put up, and Suffolk County Council is set to review it soon.

Ms Hicks had previously told the Star she has been annoyed by parked cars, which she said are causing obstructions for motorists and pedestrians.

The congestion is leading to frustration for motorists some driving recklessly and others using their car horns, Ms Hicks said.

"I have almost been run over by a car driving up the pavement suddenly to avoid an oncoming car on the wrong side of the road," she had said.

A TRO was drafted over a year ago but until recently was not advertised.

The order is a way in which the county council, which can currently fine motorists for reckless driving and parking, can transfer powers to the borough council.

In May the TRO was put up on the streets, and now its consultation period has concluded.

A Suffolk County Council spokesperson said: "Following the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation, Suffolk County Council is now reviewing the comments received.

"As soon as a decision has been made, stakeholders and residents will be informed."

It will aim to make a decision soon.

Ipswich borough councillor Colin Kreidewolf represents the area and has been working on getting this TRO through.

He said: "I would hope that SCC are able to make a positive decision as soon as possible. The problems that the TRO seeks to address have not gone away and situations of danger for both pedestrians and drivers continue.

"For the safety of all, we need to restrict parking in this area and be able to have a deterrent."
