An Ipswich man will pay out more than £500 in fines and compensation for racially harassing a man in London.

Vasile Dinca, 42, appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in Essex answering a charge of harassment.

The court heard the offence was racially motivated, according to a court listing.

The court heard that Dinca, of Wellesley Road in Ipswich, had made "insulting and threatening" comments to a man in Greater London in May last year.

The listing did not specify where in the capital the incident happened.

These comments were racially aggravated and caused the victim alarm and distress, the listing added.

Dinca indicated a guilty plea to the charge.

He was ordered to pay the victim £150 in compensation.

Dinca was also fined £375, bringing the total the defendant was told by magistrates he will have to pay out to £525.
