An Ipswich paedophile who raped a child and abused two others and a Lowestoft child abuser who caused “devastating” psychological harm to girls aged nine and 12 were among those jailed in Suffolk this week.
David Miller
David Miller, formerly of Hervey Street in Ipswich, was convicted of 16 sexual offences against three children at trial at Ipswich Crown Court on May 10.
Miller had denied all the offences, which included two counts of rape, two of indecent assault, seven of sexual activity with a child under 13, four of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of sexual activity with a child between 2002 and 2019.
The court heard that Miller had told one victim not to tell his mother about the abuse, for it “would break her heart” and one of the victims said that telling his family was “one of the toughest decisions I have ever made”.
For the charge of rape of a child under the age of 13, the judge sentenced Miller to 21 years in prison, along with another 21-year sentence for the remaining charges which will run concurrently.
Miller will also spend a further four years on an extended licence, will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Lewis Aldridge, Nathan Baker and Daniel Hermon
On Monday, Nathan Baker, Lewis Aldridge and Daniel Hermon were sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court after being found guilty last month of the attempted murder of Julian Johnson.
The trio were told they "acted like dogs" by Judge Emma Peters after they set upon in a revenge attack outside the Kings Head Hotel in Beccles in November last year.
During the trial, it was heard that Baker and Hermon got into a fight at the Wetherspoon pub, and that Mr Johnson had acted as peacemaker.
He was said to have sat down with Hermon and Baker, telling them that such aggressive behaviour would land them in prison - there being a "dreadful irony" in those words, observed Judge Emma Peters.
Hermon and Baker then went to Southwold to collect Aldridge, and returned to the pub with knives, intending to seek revenge on another group which had acted aggressively towards them.
The three then later attacked Mr Johnson as he walked home alone later that night by jumping out of their car and beating him to the ground.
Aldridge, 27, and Baker, 20, were both sentenced to 17 years for attempted murder, with Aldridge to serve one year concurrent to this for possession of a knife.
Hermon was jailed for 18 years.
Paul English
Two girls who were abused by a 43-year-old man when they were aged nine and 12 have spoken of the severe trauma he caused them as he was jailed.
Paul English, of Horn Hill, Lowestoft, caused “devastating” psychological harm to the girls and was jailed for 15 years at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday.
English was previously found guilty of 11 counts relating to sexual activity with a child and sexual assault of a child.
One of the girls who read out her personal statement in court said: “I was trapped knowing what had happened to me but did not feel able to speak about it as no one would have understood. I struggled to shower because I could feel his hands all over my body. I couldn’t go out on my own because I was scared, I would see him if I did."
A sexual harm prevention order was imposed on top of the 15-year prison sentence English received and he can no longer interact with children under 16 unless it is absolutely unavoidable.
