Proposals to create a six-bedroom house of multiple occupancy (HMO) in Ipswich have been submitted to planners.

Pearl Edge Property Ltd is planning to expand its current HMO at 268 Woodbridge Road, near Saint Mary Catholic Church.

Documents submitted to Ipswich Borough Council state the applicant wants to alter the existing rooms at the property.

The building is already in use as an HMO and currently has three bedrooms but the plans propose increasing the number to six, each with its own bathroom.

Ipswich council sets an automatic eight-week target date for a decision on all planning applications it receives.

The application is the latest in recent weeks seeking to convert properties across the town into HMOs.

The council has now issued an Article 4 direction, which was approved by the government, that will ensure that all developers who want to turn a house into an HMO will need to seek planning permission regardless of the number of occupants.

However, this application is outside the Article 4 boundary which means the applicant will not have to provide the council with a full planning application.
