A court heard that criminal proceedings may be brought regarding the death of a 101-year-old woman from Ipswich.

On Friday, the inquest of Irene James was brought before Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich for mention.

Mrs James died in Park View Care Home in Chantry Close, Ipswich, on August 16 in 2021.

The court heard that she was admitted to Broomhill Hospital in Chelmsford on June 12, 2021.

She had been living in Avocet Court Care Home, also in Ipswich, where she had sustained a burn from scalding, which was due to tea being spilled.

Mrs James was later discharged to Park View Care Home, where she died on August 16.

The court heard that a criminal investigation is underway which may result in a person being charged with an offence.

In light of this, Coroner Darren Stewart OBE suspended Mrs James’ inquest until October 21 for further mention.
