Plans are being made to turn an empty building of offices on St Nicholas Street into 28 flats.

The proposals would see Cardinal House in Ipswich turn into residential properties if approved.

A planning application, validated by Ipswich Borough Council on Wednesday (June 5), would also include 18 car parking spaces, one of which for disabled use and another an electric vehicle charging space.

The car park behind the building, accessed via Cutler Street, would remain as it was used for offices.

Some external works are also proposed, including new black metal railings to the front of the building, as well as two roof lights.

Most of the flats would feature a lobby, living and kitchen room, bathroom, and at least one bedroom, according to floorplans.

The site is within the central conservation area, which was historically a residential area that later became the office quarter.

However, the buildings are now "outdated" for office use and many buildings are being converted back into residential use, according to application documents.
