Brighten The Corners Festival officially started the countdown towards the anticipated weekend of live music with a special launch gig at one of the festivals venues.

The Brighten The Corners Festival returns to Ipswich on June 14 and 15, with live music being played across five venues in the town.

A special launch party was held at St Stephen's Church on June 1, with music from Karma Sheen and DJ Tom Greig.

Karma Sheen performed in the same venue at last year's Brighten The Corners Festival, just a couple of weeks after St Stephen's Church had opened as a music venue.

The band made such an impact at the festival, with fans online saying they were the "highlight of last year".

With less than two weeks to go until this year's festival, the atmosphere at the launch party gig was one of excitement and buzz.

The Brighten The Corners Festival showcases artists from around Suffolk, and the rest of the country in five venues - St Stephen's Church, Corn Exchange, The Baths, The Smokehouse and a free stage on the Cornhill.

A member of the Brighten The Corners team said: "The atmosphere was incredible and it was a privilege to have Karma Sheen return to Ipswich to play at our launch party.

"It's really set the town for the festival.

"There's a whole team of people working incredibly hard behind the scenes and we are just so excited to be bringing such an eclectic mix of musicians to the town, it's always a really fun weekend for Ipswich."

Teaming up with Ipswich Borough Council, the Cornhill will play host to the open-air stage that sees the winners of the Apply to Play scheme perform, as well as the Adnams beer truck and a variety of food vendours.

Weekend and day tickets are still on sale for the festival here.
