Three workers at Avocet Court Care Home in Ipswich have celebrated an astounding 90 years of service together.

Housekeeper Beryl Heskett, laundry assistant Doreen Harding, and general manager Ruth Garnham have all contributed to the home since 1994.

They began in housekeeping positions only a few months after the establishment opened its doors as Monmouth Court in 1993.

Ms Garnham moved from housekeeper to general manager, taking on the role in 2021.

She said: “This home is all I know but it certainly never gets dull.

“You never know what the day will hold and there is no other job like it.”

Well-known to residents, Ms Harding and Ms Heskett also expressed the reward they find in their roles.

Ms Harding said: “We have seen a few changes over the years with different parent companies, new rules and regulations, lots more learning about infection control and a lot more training for everyone now."

Ms Heskett, whose daughter-in-law currently works at the home, said: "It’s a happy place to work.

"Like an extended family really."

Emphasising the connection and deep bond the three share, Ms Garnham said: “I am grateful for the dedicated and long-standing team I have here and it is incredible to have been working with Beryl and Doreen for 30 years.

“We have seen each others’ children grow up, and most of them have worked here at one point or another.”
