Plans have been submitted to convert the upper floors of a vacant shop in the town centre into four flats.
Ipswich Borough Council has received the plans to create homes across the first and second floor above the former Carphone Warehouse in Tavern Street.
The space, which currently has planning permission to be used as retail or office space, has been vacant for three months.
The first floor would have two one-bedroom flats, while the second floor would have one one-bedroom flat and a two-bedroom flat suitable for three people.
Should the plans be approved, no alterations would be made to the retail unit on the ground floor, which is also vacant, and no changes will be made to the exterior of the building.
Therefore, bicycle safe storage and refuse storage details have also been submitted.
The application states the proposal provides "clear, safe and a great opportunity to provide additional living accommodation within Ipswich meeting the housing crisis demand.
"The site is located in a very ideal spot, on a high street making it feasible for occupants to purchase their essential goods as well as enjoying the social amenities of the area."
Ipswich Borough Council planning committee will discuss the plans in a future meeting.
