New signs have been placed outside the former Poundland in Ipswich town centre as the opening of a new superstore draws nearer.

Ipswich Bazaar signs have been placed outside the front of the building situated in Carr Street in Ipswich.

This sign suggests the new premises is edging closer to opening, offering people in Ipswich a new international food supermarket.

Inside the 26,000 sq ft premises, there will be a 14-metre-long Halal meat counter, a fresh fish section and a bakery.

There will also be a restaurant with 80 seats and a staffed creche area.

The store will create 50 new jobs and is expected to open in mid-June, it had previously been announced.

The outside of the building has remained unchanged, with signage going up above the entrance to the latest development.

Work has been ongoing inside the premises since it was taken over at the end of March on a 25-year-lease.

Ipswich Bazaar director Ariful Islam, who has lived in Ipswich for 14 years, said: "I am pleased to open Ipswich Bazaar to cater for everyone's needs in Ipswich.

"I want this to be a supermarket where everyone and anyone of any nationality can come and get their day-to day grocery needs.

"Ipswich town centre has suffered since Covid-19, and I believe that setting up Ipswich Bazaar will bring, not only job opportunities for people, but a reason to visit the town centre also.

"I own a transport company, which is staffed by over 100 people. I want to create job opportunities for people and use my ability to manage into my new shop.

"Not only do I want this to be just a supermarket, but I am also providing an Indian-Turkish restaurant, where all families are welcome, with complimentary on-site facilities for children."
