Fifteen people have been arrested in Suffolk in a week-long police crackdown on knife crime. 

In all, 1,283 knives were also recovered from the nine amnesty bins in the county - where the public can dispose of unwanted knives. 

Officers conducted patrols, weapon sweeps and visits to known individuals suspected of carrying knives.

Nine stop searches were also carried out - with two arrests - both of which were knife-related.

The operation, named Sceptre, took place from Monday, May 13 to Sunday, May 19.

Of the 15 arrested, Patrick Houghton, 49, of Lowestoft, and Iryna Zarudna, 44, of Ipswich, have been charged.

Houghton was charged on Monday, May 13 with threatening a person with a kitchen knife.

He appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge and is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, June 10. 

Zarudna was charged on Thursday, May 16 with the possession of a bladed article in a public place.

She is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday June 4.

“Sceptre gives the constabulary an opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime and also to tackle the crime with targeted enforcement - I fully support this approach."
