A sinkhole that has formed in an Ipswich street has been mocked by people sticking a fishing rod and a sign with 'Fishing Permits' written on it close by.
A fishing rod with a milk carton on the end of it, a chair and the sign have been placed around the fenced off defect in High Street.
The sinkhole, close to Ipswich Museum, first appeared over a month ago on March 13, with Suffolk Highways cordoning off the hole for safety.
Colin Kriedewolf, Ipswich borough councillor for the Westgate ward, said: "Residents have seen the amusing side of it by putting those fishing items there.
"It's such a deep hole though, you'd think something were done sooner.
"It urgently needed fixing, it is a busy road and they've just restricted it by putting fences and cones up around it."
The road is due to be closed on Friday between 9.30am and 3.30pm so engineers can repair the sinkhole and carry out gully repairs.
Mr Kriedewolf continued: "For a hole that deep, something more urgent should have been done so it doesn't spread.
"Just from a safety perspective, I would have thought they would want to get it done as soon as possible."
A statement from Suffolk Highways said: "An initial investigation has taken place, however the exact cause cannot be determined until the road has been excavated.
"The road will be closed on Friday 19 April for repairs and installation of a new drainage gully."
