Like most of you in the town, whether I am at Portman Road or watching on TV, I am roaring on the Town, hoping they can get across the line in this exciting promotion race and return the club to the Premier League.

I was at the match this week as we drew against Watford, despite the draw, we head into the final few games sat in second, one point behind league leaders Leicester. The journey the club has been on over the last couple of years is unbelievable.

Just twelve months ago, the club was fighting to get out of League One against teams like Morecambe and Shrewsbury and now, with only a few games left, is dreaming of the Premier League and trips to Liverpool and Man City.

The success of the club on the pitch really grabs the attention of the town and this success is shared.

More people come into the town on match days and more away fans come, some taking a long weekend to enjoy everything our town has to offer. The trajectory of this great club is upwards and I for one cannot wait to see what the future holds for our club.

Away from football, I, like many of you, tuned in recently to watch our very own Fabio Wardley defend his British Heavyweight Title in an epic fight against Frazier Clarke at the O2 Arena in London.

The support he received on the night from the town was significant. Despite the bout ending in a draw, Fabio put on a performance full of courage and heart in the face of adversity and made the town proud. Let’s see what’s next for Fabio, I hope to see him fight at a packed out Portman Road cheered on by the town.

I was delighted to hear about Ipswich local, Jasmin Taylor’s success in telemark skiing which features a combination of alpine skiing, cross-county and ski jumping. Jasmin became the first British World Cup medallist since 2015 by winning the parallel sprint and overall titles at the event in Pra Loup, France.

As the winter sport season comes to a close, I will be tuning in next winter to support Jasmin in her pursuit for more success.

You will have read in recent weeks about the success I have had in helping to secure additional funding for Ipswich Wanderers to secure their league status for another season. Alongside my work with the BMX track in Gainsborough who received over £11,000 from the Town Deal.

Sport is something I am passionate about and I love to get out, watch, and cheer on our local teams as much as possible.

As you will all know 2024 is an exciting year for sports, I am sure many of you like me, have already planned your TV schedules around the Paris Olympics and the Euro’s taking place this summer.

Whilst the focus for sports fans like myself this summer will be on the international sporting stage, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back at the successful start to 2024 Ipswich’s sports stars have had.

Ipswich has a rich and proud heritage in sport and our new stars are writing their own history for the town to remember. I look forward to following the town's athletes throughout the rest of 2024 as they look to build on the successful start to the year.
