Ipswich man to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Rett Syndrome UK

Daryl Peck has set himself the mammoth challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895m above sea level.

The 31-year-old will undertake the challenge across 10 to 12 days in October and will be doing so to raise more money for Rett UK, a charity that helps people with the rare Rett syndrome.

His niece, Tiffany, five, has the condition, a neurodevelopmental disorder which causes a slowing of development, loss of functional use of the hands and slowed brain and head growth.

Mr Peck said: "She's improving in her walking, which is good.

"It's one of the reasons why I decided to up my game and push myself further, she's pushing herself to achieve things, I should do the same.

"I am looking forward to the challenge. I start training in May so I am ready for October."

Mr Peck has already undertaken challenges to raise money, including running an ultramarathon in October last year, and has been hosting events, raffles and auctions to gain money to give to Rett UK.

As such, he has raised more than £10,000 for the charity.

He said: "I am very proud to have raised that amount of money,

"I couldn't have done it without those members on the Facebook page who donate to take part in raffles and auctions, and all the companies who have donated prizes.

"Just to raise awareness though to people that hadn't heard of Rett, it gives you an enormous sense of pride."

There are more prizes being auctioned and raffled off, including signed Ipswich Town home, away and third shirts, with the auction ending for the shirts the day after the last game of the season.
