A village hall near Ipswich has announced its first beer festival that will take place this summer.

Organisers of Copdock and Washbrook Village Hall are “delighted” to announce the venue’s first beer festival from Friday, June 21 to Sunday, June 23.

The free to enter festival will promote more than 25 ales from some of the region’s brewers and cider producers, all supplied by Paul Mellor, owner of WHARF brewery.

But the festival will not only feature ales, but Adnams Dry Hopped lager and a gin distilled exclusively for the festival.

There will be a gin bar stocked with locally distilled gin by gin expert Rory 'the Gin Lord' Faiers, who has agreed to distil the festival gin, along with food in the form of pizzas or a barbecue, along with live music performed by local bands.

The festival will be sponsored by the village’s Gladwells Pet and Country Store and profits will go to charity.

The annual village fete, organised by the village’s primary school parent-teacher association, will run alongside the festival on the Sunday afternoon. 

Organising committee member and treasurer of the village hall, Adrian Ward, said: “We are really excited about hosting our first beer festival and believe it will be a great community weekend.

“As well as having a wide range of fantastic local ales on offer, we will also have local cider, gin and a fully stocked bar with other alcoholic and soft beverages because we want this to be an event that brings the whole community together, not just those who love real ale.

“Volunteering to do a shift at a beer festival can be great fun and we think we’ll have a great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

“We are still looking for additional hands to make light work of it all and if anyone would like to get involved for a shift or two, they can get in touch.”
