Two young swimmers have made quite the splash raising money for charity.
The young swimmers, seven-year old Grace Chalmers and her deaf nine-year old friend, took to the pool for their big challenge on Sunday.
Both participants have a passion for swimming – Grace began taking swimming lessons at the age of two and has always loved the water.
She has weekly swimming lessons and has been developing her ability in the pool.
The friends spent one hour swimming, using various strokes that they have learned during swimming lessons.
The pair swam a combined total of 1,804 metres, which is about 1.12 miles – a remarkable feat considering the girl's young ages.
Grace contributed 880 metres from 80 lengths while her friend swam a little further, covering about 925 metres in 84 lengths.
For their colossal effort, the girls have successfully raised more than £400 for their chosen charity, the Ipswich Deaf Children's Society (IDCS).
The IDCS offers support to deaf children and their families in and around Ipswich and the surrounding districts.
The non-profit offers a range of services, including guidance, advice, financial support and hosts a wide variety of events using British Sign Language throughout the year for deaf children.
Richard Platt, chairman of the Ipswich Deaf Children's Society, said: "We at IDCS are very grateful to the two young girls who have dedicated their training and swimming skills to complete an extraordinary swimming feat of over 1,800 metres in just one hour and raise a whopping amount of over £400 for our charity.
"We usually get donations or grants from businesses or adults who are thoughtful and generous but to get this amount of money from two primary-school aged girls just goes to show how remarkable they both are.
"We are forever grateful to them."
