Police have released a picture of an Ipswich man who has been jailed for more than nine years after he raped a woman.
Nicholas Ryan, of Defoe Road, was sentenced to nine years and six months at Ipswich Crown Court following a four-day trial.
The 33-year-old had previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of attempted rape of a woman but he was convicted of all four counts on January 11.
The court heard that the offences occurred over a one year period and involved one victim.
As well as the prison sentence he has also been handed a five years extended licence.
Detective Constable Abygail McEvoy, who led the investigation, said: “The victim has shown incredible courage and strength throughout the court process.
“I would like to commend her bravery in coming forward and would encourage anyone else who is a victim of sexual abuse or sexual violence to report it to police and seek support from the agencies available.”
