Temporary barriers are expected to remain in an Ipswich town centre road after a huge sinkhole appeared.
The large defect was first spotted in High Street, near Ipswich Museum, on Wednesday last week.
Suffolk Highways attended and put up barriers around the sinkhole.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Highways said: "An initial investigation has taken place; however, the exact cause cannot be determined until the road has been excavated.
"An order has been raised for the road to be repaired and a new drainage gully to be installed.
"The temporary barriers will remain in place until the road has been repaired.
"Timescales for the work have not yet been agreed."
