Plans have been lodged to convert the use of land in Brightwell to store up to 1,200 shipping containers from the Port of Felixstowe.
Foxburrow Group Storage has applied to East Suffolk Council seeking permission to change the use of land at Foxburrow Farm, in Waldringfield Road in the village.
Planning documents visible on the authority's online portal say a logistics firm based at the Suffolk port is hoping to use the land, which is near Brightwell Barns, to store containers set to return to Felixstowe.
The documents said: "The application is made following an approach from the operators of a logistics company operating from the Port of Felixstowe as to the use of this land for the storage of containers.
"The proposal would provide for the storage of containers awaiting return to the port and onward transfer, but would not be used for the handling of goods."
The documents added: "The containers would be surrounded within compound fencing to provide security and ensure that the use is contained within the site area.
"The site would provide for between 1,000 to 1,200 containers to be stored on the land."
