A primary school has applied for permission to install a new 'zen room' for children's mental health.

Birchwood Primary School in Valiant Road in Martlesham Heath has applied to Suffolk County Council to install a new mental wellbeing facility.

The 24 square-metre site intends to be a safe and calming talking space for children to be supported by trained adults, and to take a break from the stresses of school life, according to planning application documents.

The new timber-built single-room building would be separate from the main building, if the plans are approved.

The site is currently unused grass to the edge of the school's hard play area.

The application was submitted to Suffolk County Council, validated on Wednesday.
