A supermarket is set to close one of its branches in east Ipswich later this month – making it the second unit in the area to shut in a matter of weeks.

The Co-op at the Rosehill Centre, just off Felixstowe Road in Ipswich, has announced it will close on Saturday, January 27.

A couple of notices on the door, making customers aware of the closure, also states that staff will be offered jobs at other Co-op branches in the town.

It goes on to say: "We would like to say a huge thank you to you, our members and customers, and to the team at this store for the service they have provided over the years."

There is no explanation as to why the shop is closing on the notice.

This is the second unit in the centre to shut its doors, after Energie Fitness closed suddenly on December 21.

The East of England Co-op took the unit back after the lease was forfeited.

This leaves Greggs, Aldi, British Heart Foundation and Bargain Buys the only operating units left in the centre.

This is one of three locations in the east of England to close.

Doug Field OBE, CEO at the East of England Co-op, said: "This is difficult news to announce, but this is unfortunately the right thing to do to allow us to continue to grow.

"This is absolutely no reflection on our incredible colleagues, who provide fantastic service to our members and customers."
